Pickerelweed

Pickerelweed

Pontederia Cordata

This important wetland native prefers growing conditions that are full to partial sun and shallow water to wet mucky soil. Pickerelweed is an emergent aquatic plant that prefers marshes, swamps, bogs and protected areas of rivers that are slow moving.  The nectar of the flower attracts bees and sometimes butterflies. Ducks, deer and other animals may eat the large seeds. It provides cover for fish and other aquatic life.
