Columbine

Columbine

Aquilegia canadensis

Also known as Red or American Columbine, this is one of the first plants to provide nectar in the spring for the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Columbine is also the larval host plant for the Columbine Duskywing. The flowers are a showy red to yellow. This native will tolerate a wide range of soil and sun types and is deer resistant. The tine black pearl-like seeds bounce when they fall to the soil, aiding in their distribution – they are easy to collect by hand.
